Is it un-gentlemanly to expect your other half to buy you presents on your birthdays? ?

I always shower my other half with gifts on special occasions like birthdays and valentines day. When it's finally my birthday i'm disappointed my other half did not prepare anything at all not even a present. She said that I shouldn't expect any gifts from a girl, it's cheapskate. Am I really a cheapskate to expect something from her on my birthday??. I feel v frustrated bout it, not that I expect something expensive but at lease a gesture will do just fine. Does any ladies out there prepare presents for ur other half on their birthdays??? Or am I wrong to feel this way ??
