Can anyone help me fix my Ubuntu boot issue?

The reason HP told you take it somewhere to back up the hard drive is because the drive is toast. Ubuntu won't help you. Whatever was on the drive, is gone unless you have access to professional methods of data recovery and let me tell you it ain't cheap.
